Time

The one thing that can kill the most powerful of beings, destroy the vastest of empires, and wipe out entire civilizations. It has won over every single war and disaster this world has seen. It cannot be killed by man or any other being on this planet...

Time...

How was it invented? Can it be destroyed? Can it be explained? In this article I would like to invite you to think about what is probably the most powerful and mysterious weapon or ally to a human. Yet humans grew up getting used to it. Nowadays we cope with it without questioning it, because it is probably the only thing that we cannot control.

“Oh no, I'm going to miss my bus, have to hurry up!”... “Where could he be, he's taking ages!”... “I can explain, give me a moment, please just give me a moment
Almost everything we do revolves around time. I'm writing this right now, while the clock slowly ticks away. I hope I can finish writing before time is up...But when is it up? I don't know. All I know is that it ticks away, second by second. We accept time for what it is, but none of us really know what it is. Could it be a scientific phenomenon, or an unknown supernatural force? We'll probably never find out. Or what is its purpose? Was it created to control us or place limits on our lives?

Time is the only thing that cannot be touched, smelled, heard or tasted, but we believe in it. Yes we do, because it kills us, one by one, all of us. We accept it obediently, because we cannot fight it, we cannot speed it up, slow it down or stop it. We live with it.

It's just incredible to think, with how advanced the human race is by now, there is still something we have no explanation to and have no idea how it works, yet we live with. To me, knowing that there is something we cannot control makes me feel more secure. Especially nowadays, where the human race is demonstrating their scientific capacity at an alarming rate, using their advanced minds to invent weapons of mass destruction and infrastructure too big too handle. It's good to know that Time is the one who controls us, who draws the lines. I'm not objective to Time; mostly because I'm afraid to think about how a world without Time would be, but I would just like to know how it came here, why and how it affects us, and what its main purpose is. I would just like to know...

Sometimes we get the impression that Time has no mercy on us, and just keeps putting pressure on us until we crumble. Those last 2 minutes of an important football match your team cannot afford to lose... Other times we feel like Time is being generous with us. When you forgot to finish your homework but, when you arrive at school the next day, you discover that your teacher is away, giving you the involuntary concession of an extra day to finish the job...

It's just strange how it works. Do you ever stop to think about it? Not only do we witness to the wonders of the existence of man and other beings on the planet, but also this mysterious thing we believe in and obey called Time. It is this very Time which, in a way, defines who we are. Time is the one who determines our past, present and our future, which lies unknown to us, and the only way we can find out about our future is to wait patiently, for Time to reveal it to us. I would just like to invite you to think about Time for a while, about how, to your eyes, it works or why it's here, affecting us at this very moment. But, please my friends, don't think about it too much, because...

Tick, tock, tick, tock.... It's running out.
Time
